COMPACT

The Compact is an agreement, which is not legally binding, between the voluntary, community and public sectors about the principles, values and commitments the parties make together to define and manage their relationship. The agreement was drawn up after extensive consultation between the sectors and was launched on 8 November 2002. So far around 80 organisations have signed to the agreement and the number is continuing to grow.

To stand alongside the compact five codes of best practice have been developed which cover:

  • Working with BME voluntary and community groups
  • Funding
  • Consultation
  • Working with volunteers
  • Working with community groups

Finally, to ensure that the compact is adhered to, there is a procedure in place for resolving disagreements.

If you would like to know anything at all about the Compact and how it could affect your organisation, please get in touch. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by being part of the agreement.
