Question of the Month
Each month through 2008 we have been asking you to vote in our poll to find out what you really think.
Our polls are taking a break for now but keep visiting to see what we'll be asking you next.
- In March we asked you whether you preferred to read fiction or non-fiction. The results are in and 74% of you said that you preferred to read fiction, with the remaining 26% choosing non-fiction.
- In April we asked you whether you preferred to read newspapers or magazines. The results are in and it appears that 60% of you prefer to read newspapers, with the remaining 40% choosing magazines.
- In May we asked what you would prefer to do to cheer yourself up if you were feeling a little stressed. The results show that 77% of you prefer to read a book with some chocolate as well, whilst 23% would go for just the book. No one opted for just the chocolate - clearly you're all book lovers.
- In June we asked what type of book you liked to read on holiday. Top of the list was a thriller - with 29% of the vote. Other types of books came in 2nd place with 21%, biographies were in third place with 14%. Comedy, crime, fantasy, horror, and romance/chick lit came in with 7% of the vote.
- In July we asked whether or not you liked to read poetry. 78% of you thought that poetry was ok, you neither liked or disliked it. Whilst loving and hating it got equal numbers of votes, polling 11%.
- In August we asked whether you would rather watch the Olympic Games or read a book. Clearly you're a load of book lovers with 87% saying that you would rather read and only 13% favouring watching the Olympics.
- In September we asked if you were influenced by what you read and have ever done somethng, or been somewhere, just because you read about it. It seems that you are, with 45% saying that you have done sometimes because it's given you ideas and 27% saying yes, that's what reading is all about. Only 27% said that you hadn't been influenced and that you read for escapism.
- In October we asked you about discussing books. According to our poll you're quite a sociable bunch when it comes to reading. 55% of you like to talk about what you've read informally with your friends, whilst 36% belong to a readers' group and love to discuss books. Only 9% of those who responded said that they read for themselves and don't like to talk to other people about what they've read.
- In November we asked you about films of books. Lots of films and TV shows are based on books, but while some are better than the original, others can be disappointing. The question we asked was do you enjoy reading something that you've already watched and vice versa. Half of you wanted to read the book before you saw the film, whilst 38% would rather not watch an adaptation if you'd already read the book. 12% of you weren't really bothered, but no one who responded wanted to see the film first. You're clearly a bunch of book-lovers!
- In December we asked if you'd ever thought about writing a book yourself. 44% of you said that you'd thought about it and maybe one day you would. 33% said that you would much rather read what someone else had written whilst 22% of you had actually done it and written a book - We look forward to reading them!
