Alderman Bowen provides a day service to adults with learning disabilities from Monday to Friday during daytime hours.

There are two sister projects one of them is connected to the main Alderman Bowen day centre, The Mary Rose elders bungalow promotes and maintaines life skils for people that are retired from the larger day centre.

The Asian Women’s Centre (10 minutes drive away). A community project catering for the needs of Asian Women with learning disabilities who specifically require an all female environment.

The three centres, while independent in terms of budget, transport and day-to-day operation, have strong ties – they share a senior management team, and staff are often temporarily redeployed to cover staff shortages  when necessary.

Each part of the service focuses on outcomes for individuals.

The day services aim to perform the following:

 ·         Engage people in activities of their choice.·         Promote independence with knowledgeable staff.·         Provide life skills through vocational opportunities, which develop new skills and build on existing ones.·         Promote social inclusion by working in partnership with our locality, with a view to the future to provide community provision or hubs for smaller groups.·          Provide a transport service that supports Individuals to access the Day Service and Community based activities.·         Communicate effectively with people who use our service, Informal Cares, and local communiy members.·         Accelerating techniques in Person Centred approaches to encourage people to steer their own life choices.  ·         Provide day time respite service to carers.·         To meet religious and cultural needs.·to empower our local youth, based on the beleif that they have hug gifts to offer us in terms of energy, insight, imagination, and vision.  When their gifts are given and received everyone gains.
  •  Our community neighbours involvement is critical for successful implementation and future service development.  Alderman Bowen day centre is committed to developing and promoting ongoing stakeholder involvement, we encourage community partners to call in and discuss opportunities for joint working.

We hope to have extensive inter-agency and service user involvement in the preparation of any future Plans. To support consultation and participation in the planning of services Alderman Bowen has created this web site, we hope it will:

  • Developed a 'Communication Strategy' and embarked on a consultation process in line with the Scrunity Committee and modernisation team/leaders who are developing day opportunities for disabled citizens.
  • Established a dedicated community team by particpating on the neighbourhood management board: we will distributed information leaflets to our 166 service users and their families.
  • Hosted a Person Centred Planning awareness events each year.
  • Undertaken presentations to Birmingham's city council.
  • Take part in community events
