Introduction & Aims
History
The village of Burton-Upon-Stather is situated some 4 miles to the north of Scunthorpe in the county of North Lincolnshire on the banks of the River Trent. The Playing Fields Association (PFA) was founded in 1976 when the Parish Council leased an area of land in the South East of the village to the Trustees of the PFA (The Committee) for the sum of 50 pence per annum. The aims of the PFA are to manage the designated area of land for the recreational benefit of the residents of the parish. The Committee To achieve the above aims a Committee exists to carry out the day to day running of the PFA. Clubs A number of clubs use the playing fields on a regular basis. These include the Bowls Club who use and manage an area to the north of the main field. A number of football clubs catering for different ages use the main field area. Recreation The playing fields are available for the recreational use of all members of the village, so long as the use by any individual or group does not affect the availability of the area for others. In addition the Pavillion building is available for hire by any organisation or individual if required. And Finally The Committee are always interested to hear of any suggestions from members of the parish for further ideas on how we can use and develop the playing field area. We do however have a couple of requests for villagers: Do not exercise dogs on the playing fields. Report any damage you see and please attempt to stop any acts of vandalism. Please use the recycling area as the PFA gets a small revenue when the bins are emptied. Why not come along to a meeting of the Committee and offer your help in the running of this village amenity.
