Getting involved

Volunteers

Active Ageing is looking for volunteers. We need people that can help us organise and lead activities for older people. No experience is necessary as training can be provided. If you are interested in getting involved with the project please contact the Active Ageing Development Officer at adam.wrightham@northlincs.gov.uk or on 01724 297255.

Training opportunities

If you would like to train as an activity leader we have a number of training opportunties available. In 2007 courses in the local area include:

  • Chair based exercise
  • Leading dance with older people
  • New age kurling

Watch this space for more information about the course details or contact the Active Ageing Development Officer at adam.wrightham@northlincs.gov.uk or on 01724 297255 to find out more. Some funding is available from Active Ageing to pay for training.

Community groups

Active Ageing want to work with the community to develop active recreation opportunities for older people. If you want to start a new activity or develop an existing session we have a range of services that can help you.

  • Active Ageing can train people as activity leaders
  • We can provide qualified instructors to lead sessions
  • A range of equipment is available to loan
  • Our magazine is a great place to advertise your activity or service
  • As part of the Sports, Play and Community Development Team we can draw on many resources to support and advice you or your group
  • Active Ageing has a number of opportunities for volunteers to get involved

For example - Burnham Road Day Centre

During October 2006 Active Ageing orgainsed taster sessions at the leisure centres as part of healthy ageing week. Following their visit the people at Burnham Road Day Centre asked if they could repeat the sessions on a monthly basis. To help the group Active Ageing have funded extra taster sessions, provided equipment and brought in a qualified coach. The sessions will begin in January 2007.
